The Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) and the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) continue to work closely to strengthen CRRUA’s wastewater operations, improve infrastructure planning, and ensure long-term regulatory compliance for the utility that provides water and wastewater services to Sunland Park and Santa Teresa, NM.
On May 19, members of both organizations toured the West Mesa Wastewater Treatment Facility (WMWTF) and participated in a follow-up meeting focused on operational priorities and future investments.
Discussions included funding strategies, immediate operational improvements, and long-term infrastructure initiatives designed to help keep CRRUA NMED compliant with environmental and wastewater treatment requirements.
Representatives emphasized the importance of continued partnership and proactive planning as CRRUA advances projects aimed at improving system reliability, operational efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
An NMED contractor, who is a wastewater industry professional, will review facility operations and recommend solutions to optimize the WMWTF that currently processes industrial wastewater.
Both organizations reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining open communication and collaborative problem-solving.
