CRRUA Now Compliant with EPA & NMED Lead/Copper Notification Violations

The Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) is compliant with all applicable federal and state lead and copper notification violations dating from 2011 to 2025.

As a result, the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) has updated CRRUA’s compliance status on the state’s Drinking Water Watch system - a public-facing database maintained by NMED that allows access to information about public water systems throughout New Mexico. The system provides transparency by enabling users to review water quality data, regulatory compliance status, and sampling results.

The utility’s release from Drinking Water Watch confirms that all required corrective actions and compliance obligations associated with lead and copper requirements have been successfully completed.

EPA lead and copper compliance requirements are designed to protect public health by minimizing the presence of lead and copper in drinking water. Compliance includes regular water quality sampling at designated customer locations, corrosion control treatment monitoring, detailed reporting and recordkeeping, public notification requirements, and adherence to strict state and federal oversight standards established under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

CRRUA operations staff worked collaboratively with compliance officers from NMED and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) throughout the compliance review and resolution process.

“This was truly a team effort,” said CRRUA Executive Director Juan Crosby. “Our staff worked alongside NMED and EPA compliance officers to ensure full compliance. This achievement benefits the communities of Sunland Park and Santa Teresa by reinforcing our commitment to providing water that meets federal and state drinking water standards.”

CRRUA will continue ongoing monitoring and proactive water quality management efforts to maintain compliance and to ensure continued public confidence in the water system.
